Trigono Lamda - Greek Door Designs

Doors as features

Portes tis Methonis by Robert
Doling Doors are one of the main decorative features of Greek homes, and a feature beloved of artists. Functional they may be, but doors, like gates, are a point of introduction to a building and, seen close up by visitors, have long been more than a way to keep out draughts and intruders. Door styles, materials, colour and surrounds, reflect not only the period of the building and skill of the designer, but the personality and possibly the status of the owner.

Methoni Doors

Older wooden or wrought iron and glass doors are being replaced by Coated aluminium which is a practical solution requiring less maintenance and with better insulation against the weather and insects. Though this is inevitable, something special is lost by the replacement of old doors, and their furniture. Apparently, door designs reflected local traditions and wrought iron patterns were specific to regions. I've also photographed Pylos Doors and Doors in Athens.

In 2008, Visitors to Andreas' Restaurant on the upper road, one of Methoni's two main streets, enjoyed a display of the work of artist Artist - Robert Doling . Robert has made a series of paintings featuring Methoni doors

Other interesting features are roof styles, wrought iron balustrades and chimneys.
