Visiting Methoni
Methoni is a popular destination for tourists to the Peloponnese. Although the main tourist season is from mid July to the end of August, there are visitors in all seasons.
Hotels
Some hotels are open all year and are conveniently situated in the area of the town closest to the sea, castle and restaurants. The Achilles Hotel, next to Maria's coffee shop and opposite the town hall, is one of several hotels open to non-residents for light refreshments.
Apartments
You will find apartments and rooms to rent throughout Methoni, offering various grades of accomodation priced accordingly. Melina's Apartments are on the edge of the town and offer a sea view. Other apartments are further out of town, offering a quiet situation; or you can opt for town locations with balconies.
Camping
The Methoni campsite is open from May till the end of September and has a convenient sea-front location. The sea temperature is apparently about 14 degrees centigrade all year and the weather is sometimes suitable for bathing until December. Some people bathe all year round, but many locals prefer to wait until June or even July before taking their first dip. August is often so hot that the water is the only place to cool off.
Some local hotels and "rooms to rent" owners advertise via their own websites or via tourist sites but it is still common for travellors in Greece to turn up without pre-booking. You should not find this a problem generally but beware the festival times!

A particular interest of this site is simple accommodation, which is not only attractive to campers and caravaners but also to those looking for the experience of living a traditional village life and possibly interested in renovating an old property, either by buying it or by living rent-free in return for working on the property.Self-build, or buying the land and having a house built for you are other common options. Greek lessons on living without utilities
Ithaki, the Lemon Grove building, has been used as an extra room or store in return for a nominal rent and work at the lemon grove. Arrangements such as this can benefit both parties.
